The copyright of the compendium belongs to Her Majesty's Stationary Office (Crown copyright). The copyright to the scientific abstracts extracted from the CAB Abstract database remains with the CABI Publishing of the CAB International, as indicated on each abstract. The compendium also allows access to a large number of Crown copyright-documents and reports, either as scanned-in documents or as PDF-files (see: list of these documents). The copyright of these documents remains with Crown.
The use of the whole compendium
The use of the whole compendium in CD-ROM format is subject to following restrictions:
The users are allowed to make only a reasonable amount of copies of the CD-ROM for private use only. The CD-ROM can be networked within one institute for access to users within that institute. The compendium web-site can be linked to other web-sites only if permission for such linking has been granted by the site manager.
The use of the main text of the compendium
The use of the main text of the compendium is subject to the following restrictions:
The copying of the text is restricted to private use only. If the text or parts of the text are copied and used for teaching or advisory purposes, due acknowledgement of the authorship and copyright must be made.
The use of Crown copyright-marked materials within the compendium
The use of documents within the compendium marked as Crown Copyright is subject to the following restrictions:
Permitted use. Users of the CD-ROM or visitors to the web-site are granted permission to access this Crown copyright material and to download the Crown copyright material onto electronic, magnetic, optical or similar storage media provided that such activities are for private research, study or in-house use only.
Restricted use. Visitors to the web-site must not copy, distribute, sell or publish any of the Crown copyright material taken from the web-site. Any such use of material requires the formal permission of the Controller of Her Majesty's Stationary Office.
The use of CAB International-marked abstracts within the compendium
The use of abstracts within the compendium marked as CAB International Copyright is subject to the following restrictions:
Systematic downloading and/or archiving, including the copying of the entire body of abstracts for instructional use is prohibited. Users of the compendia wishing to re-use abstracts for such purpose should contact CABI to obtain written permission. Individual abstracts may not be made available in other fee-paying services or systematically supplied or distributed beyond the compendium.
